Relaxation Is Who You Are

“Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are.”

I came across this simple thought earlier today and it really made me pause and think.  I would expand on it though. Tension is not just who you think you should be, but who you think others think you should be, too.

In other words, tension arises when you are trying to be something other than yourself. You get stressed trying to be the overachiever, trying to fulfill some perfect expectation of who you think you should be, or who your boss thinks you should be, or who your spouse thinks you should be, etc, etc.

When you simply allow yourself to be who you are, without stringent expectations, you can release that inner tension and relax.

Today, strive to just be who you are and not what you think you should be.
